I like Twitter’s new ‘cashtag’ symbol. Easy way to refer to public companies http://identi.ca/url/72984427… can we have it on !Identica?
-
.@samatjain nice idea though annoying assumption that all $TEXT are meant to be references to companies…
-
An idea could be to implement #cashtag via an escape character like ^ or \ prepended to ‘$’
-
/me would be evil and suggest just using ¤ (U+00A4), but pretty much no one knows/uses it
-
Ugh! Didn’t know a “currency” symbol (U+00A4) existed. Thought ¤ was an error ☺

or maybe we should better resist the temptation of special-casing an ontological domain just because it’s money related… #cashtags
-
Also, worth noting that this is something that came from StockTwits.com, which is a great focused social network.

@evan Whn lmtd to 140c, evry ch cnts
-
@evan And apparently until recently… typed-out domains like example.com would get picked up by URL shortener (not anymore?)
-
@johndrinkwater @lnxwalt @erack ‘#’ also conflicts w/ naming IRC channels, and any number of things… but like $, neither used often
-
@zack Personally, I’d like some kind of special-casing for locations too. Perhaps by nearby aiport? I.e. will be in ✈SFO next week
-
It’s a framing issue. If you talk about companies according to their stock ticker, you’re talking about a different aspect than their URL.
-
It depends on your URL shortener prefs.
